On January 15th, 1919, Boston witnessed a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with that thick sweet nectar burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that swept through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, soaring to 25 feet in some areas, was catastrophic. Buildings were flattened under the weight of the treacherous goo.

The aftermath was heartbreaking. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more suffered injuries. The flood also caused a great deal of destruction to property, leaving a trail of sweet devastation in its wake.

The City of Boston's Sticky Nightmare
